South Western Africa was a German colony from 1884 until 1915. However, the map shows Namibia. Well, in 1990 the German colony of South Western Africa became announced to be called Namibia. Namibia, or South Western Africa has an area of 835,100 kilometers squared. In January of the year 1486 Diogo Cano and Martin Behaim (historians are not sure if he accompanied him) landed in this place, or to be more exact in Cape Cross. Martin Behaim is the person shown in the picture at the left. After they found South Western Africa, only a few Europeans started to live there. Later on in 1884 it then officially became a German colony, but before that, still a lot happened. The German colonization had positive and negative effects on the natives, and on Germany; you will also learn about some events that took place during the actual colonization, key places and events, things happening after 1915, reasoning for Germans going there, how they treated the inhabitant, and the effects on the natives concluding to the colonization. At the end of this reading, you should be able to know most of the things that happened in the colonization of South West Africa
